A
Texas primitive Log Cabin, by the late 1870's that one room log
cabin was transformed into a "dogtrot" styled Texas
farm house.
Today,
the dogtrot is the foyer and the dining room of the guest house.
This room proudly exhibits the original wooden pegged dining table
and one of two original trunks used by these Moravian emigrants
on their journey to America. A wooden ships ladder accesses a
reading loft overlooking the Log Room. |

The
jewel of the Homestead House is the Log Room. This one room log
cabin, with its two original doors, has been preserved. Today,
the Log Room is your living room. It's vaulted two storeyed ceiling,
wood burning fireplace and history provide a perfect setting to
read a book or watch an old movie.
Although
your breakfast is served at the Polasek/Sklar House, The Homestead
House provides you with a fully equipped kitchen for your use.
Coffee, a variety of teas, and Blue Bell ice cream are compliments
of The Homestead House.
Antiques
appoint each of the two bedrooms which share a single bathroom.
The bath area, as all of The Homestead House, is fully handicapped
accessible.

Grandpa's
bedroom was one of the first two additions made to the Log room.
This room is furnished with a double iron bed, a marble topped
wash stand and a chifforobe.
Two
half teester twin beds await you in the Parlor bedroom. At the
turn of the century, this room served as the family parlor. The
larger of the two bedrooms, the Parlor room, features an armoire
and dresser that are original to the house, a seating area and
french doors which open out to one of the two guest house porches.
Before
you walk the gardens of The Homestead House, have your morning
coffee on one of two porches...maybe work a crossword puzzle,
or just savor life in the country. |
When
Czechoslovakian emigrants arrived in Indianola, Texas in 1871,
they sought farmland with rolling hills that reminded them of
their native Moravia, a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. They
settled in Latium, Texas.
As
the Family grew, so did the Texas primitive log cabin they called
home. Today, this once modest Texas farm house has been renovated
into a beautiful guest house property. This Texas Treasure is
still owned by a direct descendant of these brave new Americans.
Welcome
to The Homestead House - Charlie. |
